Have you ever wondered and noticed how people use to measure personality? Or what are the things which people mention about personality.
Personality is a borrowed thing. Personality is like your clothes, an outer covering, an outer layer that has come from the outside. Personality is not what you are, personality is what you wear. Wear, not in the sense of clothes. Wear, in the sense of putting upon yourself.
Personality is your external layer.
A person who is interested in external has surely no eyes to look into internal, to look into what is essential. But that is the way we live. And that is the way we have been taught to live. We have been told that the man is judged by his appearance. We have been told that all that is, is by appearance. We have been told that ultimately what counts is success. We have been told that you must have it by hook or by crook. ‘Get it, wear it and display it.’ That ‘s the way we have been brought up. That’s the way we have been taught. So, personality has become very important in this blind world because this world has no eyes to look into the essential.
Personality is what you wear. Be more concerned with what you are.
You must know the essential, and the personality is not the essential. Are you getting it?
Now there is the word “individuality”. Now you have asked a question about individuality. You may have asked something else. There might be someone who has given answer to your question. In that way, there is a whole new situation with every moment passing by. But what I will speak or answer depends on how I am responding and that’s what individuality is all about.
The ability to respond . That when something will come, when the challenge will arise, when the situation will pose itself, then I will have the ability to respond. And that is your individuality.
Every moment can be called a fresh challenge. But my individuality lies in responding to that challenge, not in a predetermined way but in my intelligence, in my understanding.
But can I respond without understanding? And that is individuality. The capability to respond. And before the capability to respond comes the capability to understand, because responding is not possible without understanding. Are you getting it?
